About Suzanne Bates Textiles
Suzanne Bates designs work that is a reflection of her background. A graphic designer for 30 years, she now explores textiles out of a desire to create pattern with her hands rather than a computer. Whether hand dyeing or hand weaving, working in textiles provides not only a canvas for her pattern design, but also a tactile and sensory connection to her work. It is a very slow and intentional process, but one that helps her connect to and celebrate the joy of making by hand.
"I love that the textiles I make will be used, celebrated, worn, and gifted, and in a small way, enhance someone's home and life. My desire is to create things that last, and to bring simple pleasure to the people who use them."
Her small coastal Charleston studio sits in the middle of 70 acres of maritime forest and Suzanne is constantly inspired to explore the beauty of nature around her and to bring a part of that natural world into her studio and home through her craft. Earthen hues, hand dyed yarns and fabrics, sustainable fibers like cotton, linen, and silk are all a part of the palette she uses to impart lasting quality to her finished work.
Suzanne is available for collaboration and custom work.
